The Chicago Bears opened their 2025 preseason with a 24–24 draw against the Miami Dolphins at Soldier Field on Sunday, giving new head coach Ben Johnson a dead-even result in his first game on the sideline. Chicago held starting quarterback Caleb Williams and 18 other regulars out, while Miami’s Mike McDaniel allowed Tua Tagovailoa and most of his starters one series. Dolphins rookie running back Ollie Gordon capped an impressive outing with a touchdown run, and kicker Jason Sanders converted from 56 yards. Backup quarterbacks Quinn Ewers and Zach Wilson combined for 10 completions on 27 attempts and were sacked six times as both clubs turned the second half over to reserves. The stalemate is the Bears’ first preseason tie since 1973 and followed two days of joint practices in Lake Forest that featured multiple scuffles; McDaniel briefly stepped in to separate one melee. Dolphins linebackers Jordyn Brooks and Tyrel Dodson later described their sideline altercation as “brotherly” and apologized to teammates. Coaches highlighted individual auditions over the result. McDaniel praised edge rusher Grayson Murphy, linebacker Willie Gay and cornerbacks Storm Duck and Jack Jones for solid defensive work, while Johnson said health and evaluation would remain the priority as Chicago prepares for its next exhibition game.
