Negotiations over rookie contracts have stalled for almost the entire 2025 NFL second-round draft class, raising the prospect of widespread absences as teams open training camps. Only two of the 32 players selected in Round 2—Cleveland Browns linebacker Carson Schwesinger and Houston Texans wide receiver Jayden Higgins—have signed, both receiving fully-guaranteed deals that agents now cite as the new benchmark. The Los Angeles Chargers, whose rookies reported on 12 July, have already encountered the first confirmed holdout, according to NFL Network. The Seattle Seahawks also risk opening camp without either of their two unsigned second-rounders when rookies are due to arrive on Tuesday. Similar contract stand-offs are expected elsewhere unless guarantees and payment schedules are resolved quickly. Rookies usually report a week ahead of veterans to acclimate to playbooks and facility protocols, a schedule already under way for clubs such as the New York Giants and San Francisco 49ers. Team officials privately say missing that head-start could slow player development and complicate roster planning if the impasse extends into full-squad practices next week.
