On June 24, 2025, armed gunmen attacked three Nigerian Army forward operating bases in Niger State and parts of Kaduna State, resulting in the deaths of at least 17 soldiers and injuries to 10 others. The Nigerian Army reported that approximately 300 bandits were involved in the assault, which involved prolonged firefights lasting several hours. This attack is part of ongoing violence in northern and central Nigeria, a region frequently affected by insurgent and banditry activities. Additional security challenges in Nigeria include the killing of at least 38 kidnapped individuals in Zamfara State despite ransom payments, and the loss of over 130 security personnel to banditry in Katsina State. Security forces have also reported killing 45 terrorists during operations in border towns in Niger State. Separately, communal clashes and kidnappings continue in other parts of Nigeria, including the abduction of seven farmers in Ondo State with a ransom demand of 100 million naira.
