Pakistan’s Sindh Counter Terrorism Department said on Saturday it has dismantled what it described as a Karachi-based assassination cell run by India’s Research and Analysis Wing. Additional IGP Azad Khan Tanoli told reporters the unit arrested four men—Umair Asghar, Sajjad, Obaid and Shakeel—linked to the 18 May murder of social worker Abdul Rahman, also known as Razaullah Nizamani, in Matli, Badin district. Investigators alleged the plot was orchestrated by RAW officer Sanjay Sanjeev Kumar, who is believed to be operating from a Gulf country. A fifth suspect, Salman Virk of Sheikhupura, was allegedly hired by RAW, fled abroad after the killing and is thought to have escaped to Nepal. Police displayed two pistols, a motorcycle and mobile phones said to have been used in the attack, and claimed the network received funding through banking channels. The detainees also confessed to ties with a banned militant group and to planning additional attacks in Karachi, according to the CTD. Further arrests are expected as the investigation continues.
