The Pokémon Company used the closing ceremony of the 2025 Pokémon World Championships in Anaheim to outline the franchise’s next slate of games and trading-card expansions, headlined by the return of Mega Evolutions. Mega Evolutions will debut in Pokémon TCG Pocket this fall as part of a new season for the mobile app, introducing Mega Altaria, Gyarados and Blaziken. The update mirrors changes in the physical Trading Card Game, where forthcoming sets will feature Mega Evolution EX cards such as a 360-HP Mega Charizard X and a new “Mega attack rare” card classification. On the console side, Game Freak confirmed that Pokémon Legends: Z-A will include four-player competitive battles, while the upcoming MOBA Pokémon Unite will add Empoleon on Sept. 19, followed by Dhelmise and Vaporeon. The company also said Pokémon Champions will serve as the primary Video Game Championship title at the 2026 World Championships. Next year’s tournament will move to San Francisco’s Chase Center from Aug. 28–30 and be paired with a new fan convention, Pokémon XP, featuring panels, workshops and exclusive merchandise. The Anaheim event drew more than 25,000 attendees. In competition highlights, Peru Unite captured the Pokémon Unite crown and a $100,000 prize, underscoring the growing strength of Latin American teams.
