Google’s YouTube TV and Fox Corp. narrowly avoided a blackout of Fox-owned channels by agreeing to a short-term extension of their carriage contract minutes before the existing deal expired at 5 p.m. ET on 27 August. The reprieve keeps Fox News, the Fox broadcast network, FS1, Big Ten Network and local Fox stations available to roughly 9.4 million YouTube TV subscribers while the companies continue negotiating a long-term agreement. The dispute centers on carriage fees. YouTube said Fox is demanding payments "far higher than what partners with comparable content offerings receive," while Fox accused Google of using its market power to press for terms "out of step with the marketplace." In messages to customers, YouTube TV warned that failure to reach a new deal would trigger a $10 monthly credit and the removal of all Fox programming, including DVR recordings. The timing heightened pressure on both sides: Fox is scheduled to broadcast the top-ranked Texas–Ohio State college football game on 30 August and the NFL season begins the following week. FCC Chair Brendan Carr, though lacking regulatory authority over streaming services, publicly urged Google to “get a deal done,” underscoring the political and consumer stakes. Neither company disclosed how long the temporary extension will last, but a source briefed on the talks said it covers at least the next few days. Earlier on Wednesday YouTube TV announced a future carriage pact with conservative outlet One America News, a move analysts saw as possible leverage against Fox. The streaming service, already the fourth-largest U.S. pay-TV distributor, faces rising programming costs after raising its base price to $82.99 a month in December. Negotiations with Fox are continuing.
