The House Ethics Committee has launched a comprehensive investigation into Rep. Henry Cuellar, a Democrat from Texas, following his recent federal indictment on charges of bribery, money laundering, and acting as a foreign agent. The allegations include accepting nearly $600,000 in bribes from entities in Azerbaijan and Mexico in exchange for political favors between 2014 and 2021. Cuellar and his wife are accused of laundering the money and misusing his official position for private gain. The House Ethics Committee has formed a subcommittee to delve into these accusations and is coordinating with the Department of Justice to mitigate potential risks of dual investigations. Cuellar has denied any wrongdoing, stating that he is innocent of the allegations and that his actions in Congress have been to serve the people of South Texas. He reiterated his innocence on May 3rd.

At the time of the indictment, Mr. Cuellar denied any wrongdoing and said that he had sought legal advice from the House Ethics Committee. Now, the panel is also investigating him. https://t.co/JwNQ4nhtRR
