A mysterious fundraising firm associated with former President Donald Trump's campaign has raised millions of dollars. ProPublica has identified a network of at least 10 political nonprofits, such as the American Breast Cancer Coalition and the National Coalition for Disabled Veterans, that appear to funnel over 90% of donations to fundraisers. These organizations have collectively raised more than $33 million, promising to support various causes but spending little on activities with a political purpose. Some of these nonprofits exploit an IRS loophole, raising funds from vulnerable individuals and enriching themselves. In one instance, a fundraiser connected to these nonprofits has been barred from charitable fundraising by the FTC. One case involves a company run by a family member.

New story from @emsimani on a network of political nonprofits who spend more than 90% of their money on fundraising -- in one case, to a company run by a family member. In another, the fundraiser has been barred from charitable fundraising by the FTC. This is one of the donors https://t.co/7EsiHlQk0j
