The Trump administration has suspended the U.S. Navy’s F/A-XX program, the service’s planned next-generation carrier-based fighter, according to a report by Axios released on 2 July. Administration officials cited mounting “industry strain” as the primary reason for shelving the initiative, which had been intended to replace the Navy’s aging F/A-18E/F Super Hornets later in the decade. No timetable was provided for when, or if, development work might resume.
