Wyoming on 19 August unveiled the Frontier Stable Token (FRNT), becoming the first U.S. state to issue its own fully reserved dollar-linked digital currency. The launch was announced at the Wyoming Blockchain Symposium in Jackson Hole. FRNT is 2 percent over-collateralised and backed by cash and short-duration U.S. Treasuries held in trust. Interest generated by the reserves will be transferred quarterly to the stateโs School Foundation Fund. Built with LayerZeroโs omnichain standard, the token debuted simultaneously on seven networksโEthereum, Solana, Avalanche, Arbitrum, Polygon, Optimism and Baseโenabling seamless transfers across blockchains. Governor Mark Gordon, chair of the Wyoming Stable Token Commission, said the initiative will โempower our citizens and businesses with a modern, efficient and secure means of transacting in the digital age.โ Retail access is expected in the coming days through Kraken on Solana and a Rain-issued Visa card on Avalanche, pending final regulatory clearance. Wyomingโs entry into the $260 billion stablecoin market underscores the stateโs broader push to attract digital-asset businesses, following earlier moves such as special-purpose depository institutions. The launch also comes as federal authorities implement the GENIUS Act framework for stablecoin oversight.
