Latvian robotics company Aerones has raised $62 million in equity funding to expand its global operations and further develop its AI-driven robotic solutions for wind turbine inspection and maintenance. The funding round was led by Activate Capital and S2G Investments, with participation from Carbon Equity, Overlap Holdings, Lightrock, Blume Equity, Metaplanet, Change Ventures, and Extantia. Aerones' technology enables wind turbine maintenance in at least half the time required by human technicians, reducing downtime and associated costs for energy companies. The company currently services over 10,000 turbines annually in more than 30 countries and counts GE and Enel among its customers. Since 2020, Aerones has enabled nearly 400,000 megawatt-hours of additional clean electricity and helped avoid 165,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions. The company is also supported by a €4 million grant from the EU Innovation Fund and completed a $30 million funding round in 2023. Aerones opened an office in Dallas, Texas, in 2024 and plans to raise an additional $15 million to $20 million in venture debt later this year. Aerones' robots, powered by artificial intelligence, include external and internal inspection systems and maintenance tools that can be controlled remotely, improving safety and efficiency. CEO Dainis Kruze stated that the company aims to address the labor shortage in the wind energy sector.
