Walt Disney Co. has refreshed two of its signature U.S. theme-park attractions with high-profile Audio-Animatronics. Walt Disney World quietly reopened the Hall of Presidents on 29 June after a six-month refurbishment, restoring Donald Trump’s figure to the center of the stage. The updated robot now delivers a new recording of the presidential oath and brief remarks, marking the first time a U.S. president has been moved back to the prime position after serving non-consecutive terms. The theater had been shuttered since 20 January, the date of Trump’s second inauguration. At Disneyland in Anaheim, Imagineering this week unveiled the company’s most advanced human figure yet: the first full-body likeness of Walt Disney himself. The robot headlines a 17-minute production, “Walt Disney – A Magical Life,” set to open 17 July—coinciding with the park’s 70th anniversary. Developed over seven years, the fully electric figure can rise from a desk, take several steps and deliver archival dialogue drawn from the studio founder’s 1960s recordings, with narration by Chief Executive Officer Bob Iger. The twin rollouts underscore Disney’s push to update legacy attractions with cutting-edge robotics. While early visitors have praised the fluid motion of the Walt Disney figure, online reaction to both debuts has been mixed, highlighting the challenge of replicating well-known personalities without tipping into the uncanny valley. Disneyland will alternate the new show with “Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln,” maintaining the park’s long-standing tradition of using animatronics to tell American stories.
