Putin Tours Magadan Fish-Oil Plant Ahead of Alaska Summit With Trump

Russian President Vladimir Putin stopped in the Far Eastern port city of Magadan on Friday, hours before his scheduled summit with U.S. President Donald Trump in Alaska. During the visit, Putin toured a newly expanded fish-oil processing plant that extracts omega-3 capsules from white fish caught in the Sea of Okhotsk, highlighting the government’s aim to develop higher-value seafood exports from the region. Putin also spent time at a local sports center where youth hockey players demonstrated drills for the Russian leader. The tightly choreographed excursion offered a domestic economic and social backdrop as the Kremlin prepares for high-stakes talks with Washington later in the day.
