U.S. President Donald J. Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin met on 15 August at Joint Base Elmendorf–Richardson in Anchorage, Alaska, ahead of a bilateral summit. The two leaders greeted each other on the tarmac of the U.S. Air Force installation before proceeding to their talks. As the presidents convened, a U.S. Air Force B-2A Spirit strategic stealth bomber, escorted by four F-35 Lightning II fighters, conducted a low fly-over of the base. The maneuver underscored U.S. air-power capabilities and provided a dramatic backdrop to the meeting, which marks the first in-person encounter between Trump and Putin since the start of Trump’s second term.
