Saudi Pro League side Al-Nassr has signed veteran Spain centre-back Iñigo Martínez on a free transfer after his contract with FC Barcelona was terminated by mutual consent, the clubs confirmed on 10 August. The 34-year-old agreed a deal that runs through the 2025-26 season, becoming Al-Nassr’s second high-profile arrival of the summer following the capture of João Félix from Chelsea. Martínez leaves Barcelona after two campaigns in which he made 71 appearances and helped the Catalan club complete a domestic treble last season. A former Real Sociedad and Athletic Bilbao defender, he has earned 21 caps for Spain and is expected to provide experience alongside Cristiano Ronaldo as Al-Nassr chases silverware. Barcelona allowed the departure to trim payroll obligations by an estimated €14 million, easing the club’s La Liga financial-fair-play constraints. Coach Hansi Flick now has four senior centre-backs—Pau Cubarsí, Ronald Araújo, Andreas Christensen and Eric García—heading into the new campaign. Al-Nassr, coached by Jorge Jesus, is preparing for a Saudi Super Cup semi-final against Al-Ittihad on 19 August and is reported to be in advanced talks with Bayern Munich winger Kingsley Coman as it accelerates its recruitment drive.
