Football Dot Fun, a blockchain-based fantasy football and player-trading application, has recorded break-neck growth less than two weeks after its debut. The app lets users buy on-chain shares of professional footballers and build squads that rise or fall in value based on demand and real-world performance. On-chain data shared by market participants show the platform’s fully diluted market capitalisation jumping from about $25 million to roughly $125 million in the past day alone. Over the same 24-hour stretch, the number of unique depositors and fee revenue both doubled. Since launch 11 days ago, cumulative deposits have reached $9.63 million and trading volume $16.5 million, despite the user base remaining below 2,000 accounts. FDF operates on Coinbase’s Base layer-2 network, whose lower fees have helped several consumer-facing crypto projects gain traction. Heavy traffic briefly took the Football Dot Fun website offline on Sunday, echoing the strain seen during earlier booms at NFT marketplace OpenSea in 2021 and social-token platform Friendtech in 2023. Backers say the early momentum could pave the way for similar tokenised fantasy platforms across sports such as American football, basketball and cricket. Critics caution the token price has already climbed several hundred percent and note that most GameFi projects struggle to maintain user engagement once initial hype fades.
Websites crashing because they have alot of users is a dream for builders in web3 lol Doesnt happen often - Opensea in 2021 had this - Friendtech in 2023 had this - Football dot fun today.. Bullish !!!
This @footballdotfun boom proves onchain ecosystem is very much alive and the cycle is just warming up we just didn’t need the 69th meme launchpad It’s time for novel consumer dApps 🤝 Many Unicorns to be born in the next 6 months 🦄 https://t.co/BGjDZzNDnv
If we wanna run a tokenized fantasy sports meta for the next few months as the NFL, NBA, and Football return I'd be ecstatic Investing in and rooting for my favorite slept on athletes to perform is more fun than rooting for my favorite influencers to tweet about my cartoon dog
