Liverpool FC has parted ways with goalkeeping coaches Claudio Taffarel and Fabian Otte as part of a wider back-room reshuffle ahead of the 2025-26 season, the club said on Wednesday. Taffarel, 58, joined the Anfield staff in November 2021 at the request of then-manager Jürgen Klopp and helped the side win the Premier League last season. He will continue in his parallel role with Brazil’s national team. Xavi Valero, who spent the past seven years at West Ham United and previously served under Rafael Benítez at Liverpool in 2007, returns to the club to lead the goalkeeping department. Former Netherlands captain Giovanni van Bronckhorst has been named assistant coach to new manager Arne Slot, who is overhauling both coaching and playing personnel before preseason starts this month. The changes leave first-choice goalkeeper Alisson Becker working with a new technical team as Liverpool also prepares to integrate incoming keepers Giorgi Mamardashvili, Freddie Woodman and prospect Armin Pecsi. The restructuring is intended to refresh the squad and staff following last season’s league triumph and ahead of the club’s Champions League return.
