UEFA’s Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Body has punished FC Barcelona and several of its members for incidents that occurred during last season’s Champions League semi-final second leg against Inter Milan at San Siro. Head coach Hansi Flick and his assistant Marcus Sorg each received a one-match suspension in European competition and fines of €20,000 for what the regulator called breaches of ‘basic standards of decent conduct’ after they vehemently disputed refereeing decisions during Barcelona’s 4-3 extra-time defeat. Strikers Robert Lewandowski and Lamine Yamal were fined €5,000 apiece for failing to report immediately to a post-match doping control station, violating Articles 21.8 and 21.10(a) of UEFA’s anti-doping rules. Barcelona was also fined €5,250 for objects thrown from the stands and €2,500 for the use of flares. Inter Milan faces separate penalties of €22,000 for blocking public passageways and €11,500 for fireworks violations.
