Meta Platforms’ WhatsApp on 14 August introduced its first set of advanced group-calling tools, letting users schedule calls in advance and manage participation more formally across Android, iOS and desktop versions. The update adds a “Schedule call” option within the Calls tab, generating links that can be shared or added to calendar apps. Participants receive automatic reminders when the meeting is about to begin, and link creators are notified as people join. WhatsApp also incorporated a “raise your hand” signal to request speaking time and emoji reactions for instant feedback during conversations. The features, which will roll out globally over the coming days, keep the service’s end-to-end encryption intact and further align the messaging app with business-focused platforms such as Zoom and Google Meet.
