The South African Weather Service (SAWS) has issued multiple warnings for an intense cold front affecting several provinces including the Western Cape, Northern Cape, Eastern Cape, Free State, and KwaZulu-Natal from mid-June through July 2025. The cold front has brought icy temperatures, heavy rain, strong winds, and flooding risks, with hazardous sea conditions and damaging waves especially along the coasts of the Western and Eastern Cape. Level 4 warnings for disruptive rainfall and dangerous waves have been issued for the Western Cape, while the Eastern Cape faces yellow level 2 warnings for damaging winds and snow in northern high-altitude areas. Localized flooding has been reported in the Western Cape, with emergency and disaster management teams on high alert to assist affected communities, particularly in vulnerable and low-lying areas. The cold front has also caused snowfall in mountainous regions and is expected to continue bringing cold, wet, and windy conditions across the country through the weekend and into the following week. Authorities have urged residents to remain cautious and prepared for further adverse weather, including rough seas between the three Capes and potential flooding in multiple districts. The City of Cape Town and provincial governments have been actively monitoring and responding to the situation, emphasizing the need for vigilance amid ongoing severe weather.
