Life-threatening flash flooding of creeks, streams, urban areas, and roads is expected, prompting advisories to avoid travel and seek higher ground immediately. The warnings emphasize the danger of driving through floodwaters. The most severe warnings with a considerable threat tag are in effect for Durham and Chapel Hill until 1:15 AM EDT on July 7, with rainfall totals between 2 and 6 inches already fallen and an additional 1 to 3 inches possible.
