Astronomers are tracking an interstellar object designated 3I/ATLAS that was first detected on 1 July 2025 by the ATLAS telescope network in Chile. The body, roughly 20 kilometres across and travelling at about 210,000 kilometres per hour, is on a retrograde path through the Solar System and is expected to pass near Mars’s orbit in late October 2025.
