Athletic Club has tied Spain international Nico Williams to a new contract that runs until June 2035, ending months of speculation that the 22-year-old winger would leave Bilbao. The agreement includes a salary rise and a buy-out clause that climbs by more than half to about €85-100 million, up from the previous €58 million, according to the club statement and people familiar with the deal. Williams had been a prime target for FC Barcelona and was also courted by Bayern Munich, but negotiations with the Catalan side stalled amid LaLiga registration constraints. His decision to stay secures Athletic’s most valuable home-grown asset and deals a setback to Barcelona’s summer transfer plans. “When it comes to making decisions, the most important thing is to listen to your heart. I am where I want to be, with my people. This is my home,” Williams said in a video released by the Basque club.
