FC Barcelona managed to register goalkeeper Joan Garcia and forward Marcus Rashford with LaLiga just hours before the club’s 2025-26 season opener against RCD Mallorca, ending weeks of uncertainty caused by the league’s salary-cap requirements. Garcia, who fills in for the injured Marc-André ter Stegen after the German’s back surgery, started Saturday’s match at Son Moix wearing the No. 13 shirt, while Rashford began on the bench. Sporting director Deco and other club officials had scrambled to create the necessary ‘fair-play’ headroom, a system the club describes as ill-suited to Barcelona’s multisport model. Executive Xavier O’Callaghan said LaLiga’s rules are “not fair with Barça for being a multi-sport club.” Barcelona’s next target is to register Polish goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny and defender Gerard Martín. The Catalan side is negotiating the departures of midfielder Oriol Romeu and backup keeper Iñaki Peña to open further salary space before its next league fixture.
