Spain has experienced an unprecedented heatwave in June 2025, with the national meteorological agency AEMET issuing multiple special alerts due to extreme temperatures and severe weather conditions. On June 28, El Granado in Huelva recorded a temperature of 46°C, surpassing the previous June record of 45.2°C set in Seville in 1965. This marks the highest temperature ever recorded in Spain for the month of June. The heatwave affected large parts of the country, with temperatures exceeding 42°C in the northeast, south, and central regions. Nighttime temperatures remained high, particularly in the Mediterranean area. AEMET's warnings extended through early July, with many provinces under orange and yellow alerts for temperatures reaching up to 43°C. The heatwave also elevated the risk of wildfires across nearly all of Spain. In addition to the heat, the country faced strong storms, heavy rainfall, and wind gusts, prompting alerts in multiple communities. By mid-July, a weather change brought some relief with cooler temperatures and increased storm activity, though high temperatures persisted in many areas. Overall, June 2025 was the hottest June on record in Spain, with an average temperature of 23.6°C.
