Abu Dhabi National Energy Company PJSC (TAQA) has agreed to acquire 100% of Spain’s GS Inima Environment for about €1.025 billion (roughly $1.2 billion). The transaction, announced on 25 August, gives the emirate-controlled utility full ownership of one of Europe’s leading water-treatment and desalination specialists. TAQA said the purchase will raise its global desalination capacity by around 14% and accelerate its shift toward reverse-osmosis technology, which consumes less energy than traditional thermal methods. The deal also advances the company’s strategy of expanding its international footprint after recent investments in water infrastructure projects in Saudi Arabia and the United Kingdom. GS Inima, founded in 1957 and once part of Spanish builder OHL, operates desalination, wastewater and reuse plants across Europe, the Americas and the Middle East. The Spanish firm will become a wholly owned subsidiary of TAQA once regulatory approvals are secured, deepening the Gulf utility’s presence in high-growth water markets.
