The Chicago Sky snapped a five-game skid with a 91–85 victory over the defending champion New York Liberty at Barclays Center on Thursday night. The result lifted Chicago to 9-26 while dropping New York to 22-14. Rookie center Kamilla Cardoso powered the win, posting 22 points on 8-of-9 shooting and a career-high 16 rebounds. Forward Angel Reese supplied 21 points and 10 boards, and Ariel Atkins added 19 as Chicago controlled the interior for a season-high 52 points in the paint and an efficient 50% overall shooting mark. The contest featured 21 lead changes before the Sky closed on an 8-0 run. Sabrina Ionescu’s free throws had put the Liberty up 85-83 with 2:23 remaining, but Atkins answered with a runner, then converted a free throw for the go-ahead basket. Cardoso sealed matters with two late trips to the line, and New York went 0-for-4 from the field during the decisive stretch. Jonquel Jones paced the Liberty with 25 points and a career-high-tying five three-pointers, while Ionescu finished with 16 points and Natasha Cloud 14. Reigning MVP Breanna Stewart sat out with a knee issue, and New York cooled to 3-of-17 from long range after halftime. Chicago returns home to face the Connecticut Sun on Saturday, and New York travels to Atlanta to meet the Dream.
