The bout was announced during the July 4 episode of ‘SmackDown’ after an on-air confrontation in which Naomi attacked Cargill. The match continues a storyline that began in November 2024, when Naomi pushed Cargill off a loading dock, sidelining the former AEW champion until her return at February’s Elimination Chamber. Cargill beat Naomi at WrestleMania 41, but Naomi has since captured the Women’s Money in the Bank briefcase, adding championship implications to the Evolution rematch.
