The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) is implementing a faster and streamlined approval process for cryptocurrency exchange-traded funds (ETFs), reducing the traditional lengthy 19b-4 review to a simpler S-1 filing with a 75-day waiting period. This regulatory shift has led to the approval and launch of leveraged ETFs by ProShares, including the ProShares Ultra XRP ETF ($UXRP) and a leveraged Solana (SOL) ETF, both listed on NYSE Arca. The Chicago Board Options Exchange (Cboe) and NYSE Arca have proposed new rules to the SEC to further simplify crypto ETF listings, allowing issuers to list and trade ETFs under a standard framework without needing specific approval for each product, provided certain criteria are met. The SEC’s revised approach focuses on derivatives markets, permitting ETFs for cryptocurrencies with futures trading history of at least six months. This has made coins like Polkadot (DOT) eligible for ETF launches, with Grayscale and 21Shares potentially introducing DOT ETFs as early as September or October 2025. Market observers note increased institutional interest and adoption potential for XRP, which surged 125% in July 2025, reaching $3.65, with expectations of further gains. The new regulatory environment is expected to accelerate the launch of crypto ETFs, including those for Solana, XRP, and Polkadot, fostering broader mainstream adoption of crypto assets.
