
In the past week, U.S. exchange-traded funds (ETFs) have experienced notable inflows and outflows, with the SPDR S&P 500 ETF Trust (SPY) seeing the largest outflow of $13.5 billion. In contrast, the Vanguard S&P 500 ETF (VOO) attracted $4.2 billion, while the Invesco QQQ Trust (QQQ) gained $2.4 billion. Other ETFs such as the iShares Core S&P 500 ETF (IVV) and SPDR Gold Shares (GLD) recorded outflows of $1.8 billion and $1.6 billion, respectively. Overall, 2024 is projected to be a record year for ETFs, with global inflows increasing by 85% to reach $1.5 trillion. Approximately 70% of these funds are directed toward U.S.-listed ETFs, primarily index-based funds. The Vanguard S&P 500 ETF has surpassed $580 billion in assets under management, marking it as the most popular fund in this category. Additionally, defined-outcome ETFs, which offer protection against losses, reported an annual inflow of $14.5 billion, setting a new historical record for this segment.
