Some media outlets, citing security sources, reported that the blast injured seven troops, four of them seriously, but the military did not confirm the higher casualty toll. Earlier the same day, militants attacked an Israeli military post in Khan Younis in the southern Gaza Strip, wounding at least three soldiers, one of whom is in critical condition. Israeli media reported that the assailants had intended to abduct soldiers during the raid.
