Syria's Higher Committee for the People’s Assembly Elections has postponed the parliamentary elections scheduled for September 15, 2025, in the governorates of Suwayda, Hasakah, and Raqqa due to ongoing security challenges. The decision was made to ensure a safe and fair electoral process amid violent sectarian clashes in Suwayda and instability in Hasakah and Raqqa, where armed groups operate. The allocated parliamentary seats for these provinces will remain vacant until conditions improve and elections can be held. The election mechanism is not based on direct voting but involves designated electoral bodies within specific regions. The committee emphasized its commitment to conducting the elections transparently and noted that several Syrian and international organizations have applied to participate in overseeing the process. This election marks the first parliamentary vote under Syria's new Islamist administration, with the postponement reflecting concerns over threats to voters and candidates in the affected provinces.
