Syria plans to issue new banknotes on December 8, 2025, marking the first anniversary of the ousting of former President Bashar al-Assad. The Central Bank of Syria will revalue the currency by removing two zeros from the Syrian pound in an effort to restore public confidence and stabilize the severely devalued currency following a 14-year conflict. The new banknotes will be printed by the Russian company Goznak. Both old and new banknotes are expected to coexist for a transitional period of 12 months. This currency redenomination aims to address hyperinflation and the loss of more than 99% of the pound's value since the outbreak of the war in 2011. Although the government is studying the currency replacement, the Central Bank has not yet officially confirmed the printing date.
