President Donald Trump is scheduled to appear live on CNBC’s “Squawk Box” at 8 a.m. ET on Tuesday, Aug. 5. The rare pre-market interview is expected to cover the U.S. economy, trade policy and other current issues, and will be closely watched by investors for market-moving comments. The televised appearance comes as the administration confronts a new round of trade tensions and disappointing labor data. On Monday, Trump threatened to "substantially" increase U.S. tariffs on Indian goods, criticizing New Delhi’s continued purchases of Russian crude. India’s foreign ministry denounced the criticism, saying the country was being unfairly targeted while Western nations also buy Russian oil. Trump is also under scrutiny after the July employment report missed forecasts and prior months were revised lower. Citing the need for “accurate jobs numbers,” he fired Bureau of Labor Statistics Commissioner Erika McEntarfer shortly after the data were released, pledging to name a replacement he says will deliver more reliable figures. Futures on the S&P 500 edged about 0.1% higher overnight, and traders are bracing for volatility during and after the broadcast, which airs an hour before U.S. equity markets open.
