Microsoft and OpenAI are collaborating on a significant data center project named Stargate, a $100B GPU super cluster, which is in the third phase of a five-phase plan. This project, described as a MEGAPROJECT, is expected to cost around $100 billion, making it roughly 100 times more expensive than some of the largest data centers existing today. The considerable expense is attributed to the acquisition of AI chips required for the next two phases. The project aims to create a supercomputer with capabilities in fusion energy and a power supply surpassing that of some US states, indicating a strong focus on achieving advancements in Artificial General Intelligence (AGI).
