Bybit, a major cryptocurrency exchange, has been granted a Markets in Crypto-Assets (MiCA) license by Austria's Financial Market Authority (FMA), making it one of the first exchanges to comply with the European Union's new MiCA regulatory framework that came into effect in early 2025. Bybit has established its headquarters in Vienna as part of this regulatory compliance. This development comes amid ongoing challenges for the exchange, including a $1.4 billion exploit from which hackers have kept $644 million out of reach. Meanwhile, the Thailand Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) announced it will block access to Bybit and other unlicensed crypto platforms, including 1000X, CoinEx, OKX, and XT Exchange, starting June 28, 2025, and will initiate legal proceedings against them for operating without licenses.
