Thailand attracted 20.81 million foreign tourists between 1 January and 17 August, a 7.04% drop from the same period a year earlier, according to data released Tuesday by the Tourism Ministry. China remained the largest source market, accounting for 2.93 million visitors so far this year. The National Economic and Social Development Council on Monday trimmed its full-year projection for international arrivals to 33 million from 37 million, citing weaker global demand and increased competition for Chinese travellers. The revised target would leave the country well below the pre-pandemic record of almost 40 million visitors reached in 2019.
