Thai Finance Ministry Is Making a Backup Strategy To Deal With U.S. Tariffs 🇹🇭
Thailand has submitted a revised trade proposal to Washington aimed at avoiding a proposed 36% levy on its exports. The offer includes wider access for U.S. farm and industrial products to the Thai market, according to statements by Thailand’s finance minister. The minister said the United States has not yet responded to the new terms but voiced confidence that Bangkok can secure a tariff rate below 36%. He added that he is prepared to travel to the United States to finalize the negotiations and expects the talks to conclude before an Aug. 1 deadline. While expressing surprise at the severity of the proposed duty, Thai officials are preparing a backup strategy should the discussions fail. The interim prime minister has also expressed hope for an improved agreement that would shield Thai exporters from the punitive measures.
