Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan officially unveiled the country's integrated air defense system, known as the "Steel Dome," marking a key milestone for Turkey's defense industry. The $460 million system is designed to intercept incoming aircraft, drones, and missiles by integrating sea-based and land-based air defense platforms and sensors into a comprehensive network to protect Turkish airspace. Erdogan highlighted that regional conflicts have driven Ankara to enhance its defense capabilities. The project, which began development in August 2024, has reached a stage involving 47 vehicles valued at $460 million. Concurrently, Erdogan laid the foundation for the Oğulbey Technology Base, a $1.5 billion investment expected to be the largest single defense industry investment in recent years, which will more than double the production capacity of ASELSAN, a key Turkish defense company. Erdogan noted that many European countries are increasingly recognizing the importance of the defense industry amid current geopolitical tensions.
