President Donald Trump said he intends to "find out" why NBCUniversal extended Seth Meyers’ contract to host “Late Night” through 2028, calling the move a “sick rumor” in a predawn Truth Social post on 27 Aug. The president, who has frequently been a target of Meyers’ monologues, dismissed the comedian as having “no ratings, talent, or intelligence” and suggested he might investigate the network’s decision. NBC announced the multi-year extension during its May upfronts, praising Meyers’ decade-long run in the 12:30 a.m. slot. Trump’s threat escalates his broader campaign against late-night personalities critical of him; last month he applauded CBS’s decision to cancel Stephen Colbert’s program and warned that other hosts could be next. The White House did not clarify what form any inquiry into NBC might take.
