The European Union has announced new sanctions against Russia, targeting the Federal Penitentiary Service and 19 individuals, including judges and prosecutors, in response to human rights violations, the death, imprisonment, torture, and execution of Kremlin critic Alexei Navalny. Additionally, the EU has sanctioned former Ukrainian politician and pro-Russian oligarch Viktor Medvedchuk, along with two businessmen connected to the news website Voice of Europe, at the proposal of the Czech Foreign Ministry. These measures include trade restrictions on equipment, technology, and software intended primarily for use in information security, and are part of a broader effort to address internal repression and human rights abuses in Russia.
