The operation, which utilized prompts in Russian to argue in favor of the Trump administration, was automated using OpenAI's ChatGPT and disseminated via Twitter. Reports indicate that the failure to pay for the ChatGPT account caused numerous Russian bot accounts to malfunction. The campaign was disguised as crypto bros. Additionally, a study of 10 chatbots, including those from Perplexity and OpenAI, revealed that these bots often repeat Russian disinformation and cite sources from fugitive John Dougan's fake local news sites. There are questions about whether sanctions played a role in the disruption.
