The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has launched a public consultation to gather feedback on potential changes to its regulations, including local broadcast rules and broader modernization efforts. The consultation is part of an initiative called 'Delete, Delete, Delete,' aimed at revising or eliminating outdated policies. Public comments are being accepted through April 14. Nexstar Media Group, which owns over 160 local TV stations, has been airing segments encouraging viewers to lobby the FCC for broadcast ownership deregulation. These segments direct viewers to a Nexstar-owned website with pre-written messages advocating for the removal of restrictions that limit broadcasters from owning TV stations reaching more than 39% of the U.S. audience. The National Association of Broadcasters has also petitioned the FCC to eliminate these ownership limits. The FCC is reviewing satellite power limits and spectrum-sharing rules as part of broader efforts to streamline regulations and adapt to technological advancements. The agency plans to vote on related proposals later this month. The topic is also expected to be discussed at the NAB Show in Las Vegas. Additionally, the FCC has faced criticism for its investigation into CBS over alleged news distortion, with advocates and organizations arguing that the move undermines press freedom. Critics claim the investigation, led by FCC Chairman Brendan Carr, serves as a political intimidation tactic.
