An unidentified man died after being struck by a vehicle on the eastbound 210 Freeway in Monrovia, California, on 14 Aug. 2025. City officials said the man had fled on foot from an Immigration and Customs Enforcement operation under way at a nearby Home Depot before jumping a concrete wall and entering traffic. He was taken to a hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries. Monrovia city manager Dylan Feik said local police first received reports of federal immigration activity at the hardware store at 9:43 a.m. A police officer witnessed agents at the scene, and minutes later emergency crews responded to the freeway collision. The California Highway Patrol is leading the fatal-crash investigation, and the victim’s identity has not been released. The Department of Homeland Security said in a statement that its agents did not pursue the man and were unaware of the freeway incident until hours after their operation had ended. Home Depot said it is not notified in advance of immigration enforcement actions and was not involved in the raid. California Assemblymember John Harabadian said at least 10 people were detained during the operation, while the National Day Laborer Organizing Network put the figure at 13. The incident prompted an evening protest outside the store, with demonstrators calling for an end to workplace immigration raids that have increasingly targeted day-laborer gathering spots across Southern California.
