New York state will begin mailing one-time “inflation refund” checks to more than eight million residents in October, according to information released by multiple state agencies on Wednesday. Eligibility is based on having filed a 2023 Form IT-201 resident income-tax return. Qualified taxpayers will receive $150, $200 or $400, depending on adjusted gross income. State officials say the program is designed to offset the impact of higher consumer prices by returning a portion of the sales-tax revenue collected during the recent inflation surge.
