RFK Jr. Moves to Disband U.S. Panel Guiding Cancer and HIV Prevention

Robert F. Kennedy Jr. intends to dismiss a federal advisory panel that recommends guidelines on cancer screenings and on the use of HIV-prevention drugs, the Wall Street Journal reported, citing people familiar with his plans. The panel’s recommendations influence which preventive services insurers are required to cover without out-of-pocket costs under the Affordable Care Act. Removing the group could upend coverage requirements for screenings such as mammograms and colonoscopies, as well as the distribution of pre-exposure prophylaxis medications used to reduce HIV transmission.
