President Donald Trump said on Tuesday that U.S. automobile manufacturing is adding about 18,000 vehicles a month and will become “exciting” within two years as more assembly plants open across the country. He attributed the expansion to automakers seeking to avoid tariffs by building domestically. In the same remarks, Trump claimed U.S. steel output has increased by roughly 100,000 tons a week and that domestic oil production is running 300,000 barrels a day higher than when he took office. The president framed the figures as evidence that American industry is gaining momentum under his administration’s trade and energy policies.
