Newsmax has agreed to pay $67 million to settle a defamation lawsuit filed by Dominion Voting Systems over false claims related to the 2020 U.S. presidential election. The lawsuit, originally valued at $1.6 billion, accused Newsmax of knowingly spreading baseless allegations that Dominion's voting machines rigged the election against then-President Donald Trump. The settlement was confirmed through a regulatory filing and follows a judge's ruling that Newsmax did defame the Denver-based voting machine company by airing false information. Newsmax stated that it settled because the Delaware court where the trial was to occur would not allow a fair trial. This settlement comes about a year after Fox News paid $787.5 million to resolve a similar defamation case with Dominion. Newsmax has also urged businesses to reconsider operating in Delaware following the settlement. The payment is scheduled with $27 million due this month.
