French Finance Minister Eric Lombard said negotiations between the European Union and the United States are approaching a conclusion, with the two sides aiming to finalise a trade agreement before 1 August 2025. In an interview on Wednesday, Lombard cautioned that failure to seal the accord could trigger retaliatory tariff measures that would inflict economic damage on both blocs. He added that Europe is "striving" to close the gap in the remaining talks and reiterated that the parties are "not far" from a deal.
