An internal U.S. State Department cable reveals that the United Arab Emirates had already begun returning Afghan evacuees to Afghanistan days before President Donald Trump publicly pledged to assist those stranded in the UAE. The evacuees, numbering more than 30 individuals, had been residing for several years at the Emirates Humanitarian City facility in Abu Dhabi. The Emirati government informed Washington of the repatriations prior to Trump's public commitment to help the evacuees, who fled Taliban rule in Afghanistan.
